About RS Components
RS Components is a catalogue-based distributor of Electronic, Electrical, Electromechanical and Industrial Components. Founded in 1937, RS is part of Electrocomponents plc, and is a global business supporting over a million engineers. It has operating companies based in over 25 countries, including France, Italy, Germany and Denmark, with operations as far afield as Chile, Singapore, Australia and China, and distributes to over 160 countries worldwide.

Since it began, RS has had the simple objective of providing a part for every job, from research and development though pre-production to maintenance and repair. As those jobs have diversified and become even more complex, RS has developed its offering and services accordingly

New technology also plays an important part. When RS launched http://rswww.com, it was the first UK plc in its marketplace with a fully integrated transactional web site. Operating in every market, its e-Commerce capabilities have seen over 50% of sales achieved over the Internet.

Based in Corby, Northamptonshire, RS employs over 2000 employees nationwide.

About Electrocomponents
Electrocomponents plc is the leading international high-service distributor of electronic, electrical and industrial supplies.

The Group serves about 1.2 million customers worldwide. A typical customer is an R&D and maintenance engineer who needs access to a wide range of components at short notice and with rapid delivery. Wherever the Group operates, a very high level of service is provided and because customers are served individually, customer knowledge is very deep and detailed. The Group has around 2,400 suppliers and offers 350,000 products to the market.

Electrocomponents’ growth has primarily been organic with the strategic thrust of the last decade being to roll out the RS business model internationally with businesses throughout Europe and Asia including Japan. In July 1999, a similar business, Allied, was acquired in the United States making the Group the only truly global high service distributor. The Group has a leading presence in e-Commerce trading with about 23% of its sales achieved over the internet.

In May, Electrocomponents announced the next stage of its development in which it will focus on key customer groups in each market served. There will be an increased emphasis on our Electronic and Electromechanical offer and our offer to those in all sectors who value a convenient and urgent service. There will be cost savings from this strategy, from the successful implementation of new systems and other actions. The resulting improvement in financial performance is expected to be substantial.

Through its RS and Allied activities, Electrocomponents is a rapidly developing international Group with sales of ca. £774 million (year to 31 March 2005) in 26 countries.

Electrocomponents plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a member of the FTSE250 Index with a market capitalisation of some £1.0bn. “Electros” was formed in 1937 and was floated in 1967 when its market capitalisation was £3million.
